Tau-crons vs Daemons - Rumble in the Jungle

Had a great game with my Tau buddy this weekend, and because it was the first game of the new year I knew we had to have some fun with it.  I played a Tzeentch Horde bomb list that was completely fluffy and untried, but wow was it a blast.  I just wanted to show off a few of the more dynamic shots from the game, and a few shots that showed off the Jungle pieces I just completed.  Pics as usual after the jump.

Welcome to the Jungle

Going through some of the posts on this blog made me wanna re-do some of my previously done pieces.  I happened to have a spare vine of greenery garland, and a half dozen pieces I wanted to rework that all happened to be floral and highly vegetative.  I decided to combine both of these sets into one much more fleshed out set.  I gotta say, having played on it today was very pleasant.  The greens were offset by the pops of colors for the other floral things going on within each piece, and because the bases are sandy and the flowers have lots of oranges and yellows, very earthy tones, it fits really well as an oasis to the desert mat.

Building a Gaming Table - ver. Karate CHOP

The way I saw it at the time, the only thing preventing me from playing a game of 40k in my own home was a gaming table.  When I realized that, I set out to make that happen.  A thought occurred at the time however... I play most of my games with friends at their places... is there any chance of us needing a 2nd table at one of their places?  Could a table be made to be modular?

Hills and teaching yourself how not to do them.

My very first foray into making terrain, like many others I am sure was to make a set of hills.  At the time I thought I was super slick and the hills I made would be game changing.  Oh how quickly that illusion was shattered.  I thought it would be simple enough to top single level hills with the matching AstroTurf mat that the table used, and it would be done in an hour.  Having completed the set, and looking back, I see just how uncaring of the details I was and just how much more I wanted to rush the build to get to play with it instead of making it great. 

Trees - Go Hug one ya hippy.

Okay, so everyone and their brother has some trees to use for terrain.  I am no different in that regard, so I figured I would show off the ones I made.  I was lucky enough to get handed a box of 10+ year old railroad hobby materials from my dad who was cleaning up basement storage, and he said as long as I posted about it, I could have em.  

Standard pre-made trees from Scenic Landscapes covered in Reindeer Moss.  Mounted on CD bases.  I made a few flavors of these trees, 8-10 of each set.  A few light ones, a few darker green ones, some palms and an autumn set.

I have in the works a coniferous set to go with the arctic mat I have, but those are still very much a WIP.  I will give them their own post when they are closer to done.  

Battlemats - Change up your battlefield!

Tired of an inter-galactic scale war that is fought on the same planet with the same look battle after battle?  Me Too!!!

I kinda teased about the post topic earlier, but I thought I would showcase the mats I have made thus far.  Mostly I got sick of playing game after game on that boring field of generic green turf, and I disliked the seam in the middle of my table.  As the table is modular and divides in half, mats were a simple solution to seamlessly change that up.

I can't believe how easy these were to make, and I highly recommend them.  For ~$22 per mat, you can make some really interesting boards that will go with you very easily.  When you are done, I simply roll them up around a cardboard tube, or PVC pipe.
